Barpeta district administration and police today (Oct 30) carried out an eviction drive at Ganak Kuchi reserve following express orders from Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Along with district administration officials and Barpeta district police, CRPF personnel were also part of the eviction drive that was launched this morning.
Around 70 illegally constructed houses were demolished during the eviction drive at the reserve.
Incidentally, the eviction drive was carried out after people complained Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal about inaction by district administration officials during his visit to the Patbaushi Satra in Barpeta on Oct 23.
People have welcomed the crackdown on illegal settlers at Ganak Kuchi reserve and thanked chief minister Sonowal for honouring their request.
Incidentally, Kamrup district administration officials and police personnel had launched an eviction drive at Jalukbari yesterday (Oct 29), clearing several bighas of government land of illegal settlers.
