Assam daughter Hima Das on Thursday scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold medal at the world level. Das clinched the top spot in the women’s 400m final race in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere (Finland).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his delight at Hima’ historic win at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships. He also said that he was deeply touched and moved by her gestures after the race.
PM Modi tweeted a video of her race on Saturday and wrote, “Unforgettable moments from @HimaDas8’s victory. Seeing her passionately search for the Tricolour immediately after winning and getting emotional while singing the National Anthem touched me deeply. I was extremely moved. Which Indian won’t have tears of joy seeing this!”

President Ram Nath Kovind too lauded Das’ unprecedented feat. Hima also posted a video on her Twitter handle thanking everyone for the wishes.

On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced Rs. 50 lakh cash reward for Hima Das following her historic gold medal winning performance at the IAAF U-20 World Championships.
