Eminent economist Dr. Jayanta Madhab passes away in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Renowned economist of the country Dr. Jayanta Madhab is no more. The eminent economist passed away at Apolo Hospital in Guwahati at the age of 91. He was suffering from cardiac disease.

Dr. Madhab who had studied at London School of Economics was the first chairman of the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFI). He was also the economic advisor of the Assam Government for a period of time.

The economist served as a director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). His dead has been widely mourned across the state.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his grief over the death of the noted economist.

“Condolences on the demise of noted economist and a former director of Asian Development Bank, Dr. Jayanta Madhab. His death is a great loss for the nation and I offer my prayers for the departed soul,” Sonowal tweeted.
