GUWAHATI, Nov 4: An elephant was electrocuted to death after it came into contact with an electric cable at Boko in Assam’s Kamrup district.
The electricity cable was apparently installed by a person named Akal Rabha to ward off elephant herds that frequented the area without the knowledge of authorities.
The elephant had come into contact with the wire when a herd came to feed on paddy last night.
Animal lovers have expressed anger over the incident and have asked authorities to take action against Rabha for installing the electric fence leading to the death of the pachyderm.
