Electric trains to arrive in Guwahati from August

Guwahati: The North East Frontier Railway (NFR)  is working on the Electrification of railway tracks in Assam.

 In 2020-21 the electrification work has already been carried out on a railway route of about 334 km from Raninagar, Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Guwahati covering the North East Frontier Railway Service.

NFR General Manager, Anshul Gupta said that if everything goes according to plan, electric engine trains are expected to arrive from other states to Guwahati by August.

On July 14, GM Anshul Gupta, along with senior officials of the head office and representatives of RVNL, reviewed the ongoing railway electrification work in the area covered by the North East Frontier Railway.

The GM said that the work of electrification of the railway tracks from New Guwahati to Jagiroad through Digaru is progressing very fast. The work is expected to be completed by the end of next September.

Similarly, electrification work is also underway in the Hojai-Lumding sector. The work will be completed by March next year.

On the other hand, the Jogighopa-Dudhnoi-Kampur railway line on the south bank of the Brahmaputra is also under electrification. The work will be completed by December this year.

Anshul Gupta also said that the introduction of electric engine disbursed trains will fulfill a long-standing demand or dream of the people as well as make rail travel accessible, pollution-free and time-bound.
