Election Commission Bans Victory Processions Over Poll Results

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India(ECI) has banned all victory processions on the day or after counting of votes (May 2) due to the COVID-19 surge across India.

Coming amid a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the poll panel had laid down protocol for the contesting parties and leaders to follow to minimize the spread of COVID-19 infections.

News agency ANI Tweeted, “Election Commission of India bans all victory processions on or after the day of counting of votes, on May 2nd. Detailed order soon.”

“No victory procession after the counting on 2nd May shall be permissible. Not more than 2 persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her authorized representative receive the certificate of election from the Returning Officer concerned,” the official notification stated.
