Eight states, including Tripura and Mizoram, get new Governors

GUWAHATI: In a major reshuffle, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed new Governors for eight states, including two from the Northeast.

Incumbent Tripura Governor Ramesh Kumar Bais has been transferred and appointed as the new governor of Jharkhand. He will be replaced by Satyadev Narayan Arya, who is currently serving as the Governor of Haryana.

Ramesh Bais was the 18th Governor of Tripura and assumed office on July 29, 2019. Satyadev Narayan Arya, who is currently the Governor of Haryana, assumed office on August 25, 2018.

PS Sreedharan Pillai, who is currently the Governor of Mizoram, has been transferred to Goa. BJP leader from Andhra Pradesh Hari Babu Kambhampati will replace Pillai as the new governor of Mizoram.

Thawarchand Gehlot, Union minister for social justice in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, has been appointed as the governor of Karnataka.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatraya has been transferred and appointed as new Governor of Haryana. BJP leader from Gujarat Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel will serve as the new Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.
