The BJP has finalized its list of candidates for eight out of the 10 constituencies it will contest in Assam although the list is awaiting the formal sanction of party national president Amit Shah.
Incidentally, Himanta Biswa Sarma will not contest from Tezpur as had earlier been speculated. This was announced by Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass in Guwahati.
Dass said candidates for the Tezpur and Nagaon seats have not been finalized as of now.
“Candidates for eight seats have been finalized but the list is awaiting party president Amit Shah’s formal approval. Candidates for Tezpur and Nagaon seats are yet to be finalized,” Dass told News Live in Guwahati.
“Himanta Biswa Sarma will as NEDA convenor be in charge of campaigning across the Northeast. Hence, it has been decided that he won’t contest from Tezpur. His name was included in the panel as per Ram Madhav’s advice,” the Assam BJP president added.
The list of candidates is likely to be announced tomorrow (March 19).
