GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Eight jawans and the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling were killed in an IED explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
The security personnel were returning from an operation when Maoists triggered an IED, blowing up their Scorpio at Kutru in Bastar region around 2.15 pm.
All the eight slain security personnel belonged to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), a specialised police unit set up to tackle Maoism in the State.
Today’s attack comes after five Naxals were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Saturday.
