GUWAHATI, Nov 29: At least eight Bangladeshi migrants who tried to cross over to India through the international border under the cover of darkness have been apprehended by “alert” Assam Police guards in the past three days. They were later pushed back to the neighbouring country, data released by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma through his social media handles stated.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Sarma, in three separate updates posted in the past three days, stated that the Bangladeshi nationals were held and then pushed back, foiling repeated attempts to enter Assam.
While five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended and pushed back last night, another woman was sent back the night before while two more held and pushed back on Tuesday night.
“Displaying alertness along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended 5 illegal Bangladeshis near the International border and pushed them back across the border,” he wrote on ‘X, while identifying the five Bangladeshi migrants held last night as Dudu Mia Chakder, Anuwar Hussain, Imran Hassan, Md Mahabub and a woman named Nahar Begum.
“Continuing with its strict vigil on the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended an illegal Bangladeshi national near the International border and pushed her back across the border,” Chief Minister Sarma wrote on Thursday, while identifying the woman as Satir Khatun.
“Our forces are alert 24/7 to foil any infiltration attempt,” he further wrote.
“Displaying alertness along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals who were illegally entering Indian territory,” Chief Minister Sarma wrote on Wednesday and identified them as Nur Mohammed and Muhammed Khaleda Begum while congratulating Assam Police for their alertness.
