GUWAHATI: In a terrifying incident, several vehicles including dumpers and excavators were swept away by the river current of Gainodi in Assam’s Dhemaji district.  The water also swept away three drivers. While one of the drivers has been rescued, two others are still missing.

The rising water level of the Gainodi induced by the incessant rains submerged stone and sand mahals at Likabali. The swelling river swept away the drivers and the vehicles.

“Three persons were swept away by the river current. Twelve dumpers and three excavators were swept away. A man identified as Manuel Basumatary has been rescued. Sanjib Musahary and Sanjay das are missing,” said a police officer.

“The water suddenly came and swept away three men while we were working. We somehow escaped,” said a worker.
