Dudhnoi Police have arrested the main accused in the sensational murder of an elderly woman in Dudhnoi’s Udaipur locality on Tuesday besides also attacking her two grandchildren with the intention of killing them.

A team from Dudhnoi Police arrested Nipjyoti Rabha, the main accused in the murder of 60-year-old Phuleswari Barman Rabha, from Kharkutta in adjoining Meghalaya.

The accused had fatally attacked the elderly woman at her shop in Udaipur in Dudhnoi with a sharp weapon besides also trying to strangulate her two minor grandchildren — her son’s wards — before fleeing.

The incident had took place on Tuesday night.

After being on the run for two days, Dudhnoi Police finally arrested Nipjyoti Rabha from the neighbouring State on Thursday night.

Although it was earlier reported that the accused killed the woman who was distantly related to her due to some very personal reasons, it has now come to light that the murder took place due to financial reasons since Nipjyoti Rabha’s father had taken a huge amount of money from the deceased Phuleswari Barman Rabha and that she was pressing him to return the money.

The accused, Police sources told News Live, said this in his confessional statement made before police interrogators after his arrest.
