The Gauhati High Court today (Jan 11) granted interim bail to educationalist and intellectual Dr Hiren Gohain and KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi while granting absolute bail to journalist-turned-activist Manjit Mahanta in connection with the sedition case registered against them.
Guwahati police had slapped sedition charges after registering a suo moto case against them for reportedly supporting Assam’s independence.

Latasil Police registered a suo moto complaint (case no. 1 5/2019 under sections 120(B)/121/123/124(A) IPC) against Dr Gohain, Akhil and Manjit Mahanta after they were accused of supporting independence for Assam during their respective speeches made during the demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, on Monday (Jan 7).
