Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the SIT is in possession of irrefutable documents establishing serious links of the person under scanner with the Pakistani establishment

GUWAHATI, March 27: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh’s links with associates in India, specially with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth, is in possession of some explosive and irrefutable documents.

“The SIT is now in possession of irrefutable documents born out of records that clearly establish that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh continued to pay an individual in India although she/he was not working in Pakistan but was receiving salary for three years from him,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma told reporters in Guwahati today.

“We will conclude investigation by September and will decide thereafter whether to recommend revocation of Visa of the said person or other action as per law,” Dr Sarma further said, adding that investigations have revealed “serious links with the Pakistani establishment”.

Despite not naming the Congress MP or his British wife, Chief Minister Dr Sarma, political analysts, claimed was referring to Gaurav Gogoi’s wife Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, incidentally, was an integral part of Lead Pakistan, a non-profit organization that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh heads, during her stay in Islamabad.

It may be mentioned here that Assam Police had registered a case against Ali Taqueer Sheikh on February 17 this year and was followed by the constitution of a four-member SIT.

Amid the initial probe by the SIT, Chief Minister Dr Sarma had said that the findings would be “explosive and startling” and will “shake all”.
