Don’t communalise Hajo-Chabua incidents: Assam DGP

GUWAHATI: After the killings of two men in two separate incidents at Hajo in Kamrup and Chabua in Dibrugarh, Assam director general of police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta asked everyone not to communalise the incidents. He said that police has been taking action against all the culprits involved in both the incidents. He asserted that no one will be spared irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.

Mahanta has also warned people not to spread provocative messages through Social Media.

Addressing media persons DGP Mahanta said that a youth was injured in a clash between two groups at Koylabari in the Chabua area. The youth identified as Paragjyoti Neog later succumbed to his injuries.

Police has registered a case and already arrested 12 accused. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also asked Assam Police to take necessary action.

Similarly a man named Sanatan Deka was assaulted by a group of five men following an argument over a road accident at Hajo in Kamrup district on May 22. The victim died on May 23. Police has already arrested two accused and launched a manhunt to catch the absconding three accused in the case.

Meanwhile, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta mentioned that Rs. 2 lakh will be provided to the families of both the victims from Chief Minister Relief Fund.
