Dokmoka Lynching: Five more accused arrested


Assam Police arrested five more accused persons in connection with the lynching of Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath taking the total number of people arrested so far in connection with the spine-chilling lynching incident to 41.

Police arrested Babu Singh Kro, Perez Timung, Peter Engti, Phukan Lekhte and Ratneswar Terang in connection with the grisly incident. Police, meanwhile, had also launched a crackdown on social media users following the incident and have arrested and apprehended a number of people for rumour mongering and posting hate messages on social media from across the State.

Abhijeet Nath of Chachal locality of Guwahati and Nilotpal Das hailing from Nabagraha and working as a sound engineer in Goa had gone to Karbi Anglong on Friday where they were lynched by an irate mob that suspected them of being child lifters amid rumours spread through the social media.

On the other hand, three more accused arrested in connection with moral policing incident at Rangjuli in Assam’s Goalpara district. Arrested trio are Sahidul Islam, Ayat Hussain and Abdul Kalam. Police have arrested six persons so far and hunt for another absconding prime accused Abdul Kader is currently on.
