The Gauhati High Court Tuesday (Sep 4) ordered the shifting of the Dokmoka lynching trial from Diphu to Nagaon. The High Court announced the order after hearing a PIL filed in connection with the lynching case in which two youths from Guwahati, Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, were lynched by a murderous mob at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district on June 8 this year.

The court had taken up the PIL for hearing yesterday while reserving its order on the issue of safety of witnesses and transfer of the trial from Karbi Anglong to a neutral place for today.
Incidentally, police had filed a 46-page charge sheet along with additional documents and a 104-page case diary on Saturday (Sep 1) in which all the 48 arrested persons were named as accused.

Abhijeet and Nilotpal’s parents, too, had asked the government to shift the trial to another place so as to ensure transparency and a fair trial.
