Doctor killed in Jorhat, Assam Police arrests accused within 24 hours

GUWAHATI: Assam Police on Sunday arrested one Diganta Tati for allegedly killing a homeopathic doctor in the Jorhat town of upper Assam.The accused was arrested near the Tocklai Tea Research Institute within 24 hours of the murder of the trainee doctor Rahul Basumatary on Saturday. The 26-year-old doctor was found dead lying in the pool of blood at his rented house in the Chandan Nagar area of the town.

“We have detected the accused within 12 hours. He has already confessed the crime. Bag, motor cycle, camera, cash and everything which the accused took away has been recovered,” said a senior police official.

However, the police officer denied to reveal the further details of the motives behind the gruesome killing of the young doctor.

The victim was an intern doctor at JK Memorial Homeopathic College. The murder has sparked outrage at his hometown Udalguri in lower Assam.

Local people and activists of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) took to the street demanding stringent punishment for the killer.
