Dipali Borthakur cremated with full State Honours

Legendary singer Dipali Borthakur’s mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Nabagraha crematorium in Guwahati today (Dec 22) will full State honours with a large number of people that included her husband Neel Paban Baruah, other family members, relatives, friends, her countless fans, followers and well-wishers along with Government representatives attending the funeral.

Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharjee represented the State Government in the State funeral while State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass was also present along with a large number of people from the cultural and film industry.

Earlier in the day, the hearse carrying the evergreen singer’s mortal remains began its final journey from Beltola Sourav Nagar residence of Neel Paban Baruah and Dipali Borthakur. The hearse was first taken to the All India Radio (AIR) office in Guwahati where AIR officials paid their final tributes.

It then moved to Rabindra Bhavan to enable Cultural Affairs department officials and others to pay tributes. From Rabindra Bhavan, the mortal remains were taken to the Assam Sahitya Sabha office and then to AASU headquarters Swahid Nyas where tributes were paid to the legendary singer.

The hearse left for Nabagraha crematorium from the AASU headquarters where the mortal remains were consigned to flames with full State honours.

Also known as the ‘Nightingale of Assam’, Dipali Borthakur breathed her last at the Nemcare Hopsital in Guwahati at 1:25 pm yesterday at the age of 77.
