GUWAHATI, Feb 21: Nagaon Police have identified 10 miscreants who had attacked Dhubri Congress MP Rakibul Hussain at Rupohihat New Market yesterday (Feb 20).
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took to ‘X’ to disclose their names and said that “Police will take actions as per Law”.
The 10 attackers identified by police are Harun of Jamtola, Haresh of Fakoli, Basir of Tamulitup, Kasem Ali of Kawoimari, Rosidul of Kawoimari, Ayub Gunabari, Lutkior of Rail station, Khaleque of Rowmari, Mojibur of Gorematikhowa and Jahangir of Koachgaon.
Videos which went viral on social media showed the miscreants heckling and attacking the Dhubri Lok Sabha MP while he was on his way to attend a party meeting at Rupahihat Thursday efternoon.
The videos also showed the former Samaguri MLA riding a Scooty accompanied, among others, by his son Tanzil, when he was gheraoed by the attackers. The attackers also entered into an altercation with Hussain’s PSOs before they stopped the Dhubri MP and pushed him.
One of the PSOs reportedly fired in the air following the incident.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Sarma had announced after yesterday’s incident that Rakibul Hussain’s security cover would be increased whenever he visit Samaguri, Rupahi, Juria and other palaces of the assembly constituency he previously represented in the State assembly.
