Dense fog turns Assam highways into deathbeds, 5 killed in separate road mishaps

GUWAHATI, Ded 25: Five persons were killed in three separate road accidents in Assam as low visibility due to dense fog continues to take a heavy toll.

Three people, including two policemen, were killed when their Wagon R (bearing registration number AS 13F 4424) fell into a pond at Sipajar in Assam’s Darang district early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Mintu Nath of Laujan, and Chandrakanta Das and Pranjit Nath from the Sipajar Police Battalion.

The driver, reports say, lost control due to the dense fog and the vehicle fell into the water body. The bodies were later fished out from the pond.

In another incident, a coal-laden truck bearing registration number AS-01GC-2847 knocked down a youth on NH 54 near Hojai.

The deceased has been identified as Masum Islam.

The truck was later seized by Hojai Police Station.

Another youth, identified as Niranjan Das of Boko, died when his two wheeler met with a head-on collision with an over speeding truck at Chhaygaon in Kamrup district.
