Dense fog blankets Delhi, NCR affecting flight and train services

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Temperature in Delhi dropped to below 10°C as intense chill for the fifth consecutive day in the national capital region and other parts of North India affected flight and train services.

A dense fog blanketed the region, further plummeting temperatures on Friday morning as visibility fell to zero at Delhi Palam airport while it was just around 560 metres at Safdarjung Airport, reports stated.

The fog affected take-offs and landing with passengers having to wait for many hours in the early morning chill.

“While landing and take offs continue at Delhi airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected,” Delhi Airport authorities stated in a statement on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.

“Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the post further read.

Meanwhile, more than 20 trains were reportedly running late from Delhi due to poor visibility.

Visibility was reduced in other parts of North India as well as a thick layer of fog blanketed the region.

Fog also affected normal movement of trains and affected flights in eastern part of the country. Guwahati was also covered by a white blanket of fog on Friday morning.
