Denied ticket, Assam BJP minister joins Congress

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Assam hills area development minister Sum Ronghang who was denied a BJP ticket from Diphu has joined the Congress party on Sunday.

In Ronghang’s place, BJP fielded Bidya Sing Engleng for the Diphu constituency.

“I have taken this sudden decision. I have never thought that I would be deprived of party ticket. This has been done because of some people,” said an aggrieved Ronghang.

He stated that he would win from Diphu if he gets Congress ticket.

“Many BJP leaders will resign from the party and join BJP,” he added.

Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora welcomed the BJP minister to the grand old party.

“We welcome Sum Ronghang to our party. He has taken a right decision. Earlier also he was with the Congress,” said Bora.

Ripun Bora claimed joining of Ronghang would strengthen Congress in Karbi Anglong district.
