Delhi Hit-and-Run: Thar Driver Crushes Security Guard Over Honking Dispute, Arrested Within Hours

PUBLISHED:

Delhi Hit-and-Run: A shocking case of road rage unfolded in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area early Sunday morning, where a 24-year-old man ran over a security guard with his SUV after a heated argument over honking. The horrifying incident was captured on CCTV and has sparked outrage across the city.

What Happened?

Rajiv Kumar, a security guard working at IGI Airport’s Terminal 3, was heading home after finishing his overnight duty. As he walked near the Mahipalpur flyover, a Thar SUV came up behind him, honking loudly.

Rajiv, annoyed by the constant honking, requested the driver to stop. But instead of calming down, the driver got aggressive. He even demanded Rajiv’s security baton. When Rajiv refused to give it, the man allegedly threatened to run him over.

Just moments later, when Rajiv crossed the road, the SUV driver accelerated, rammed into him, and knocked him to the ground. The driver then intentionally ran over him again, causing fractures to his legs and hands, police said.

Victim in Hospital With Serious Injuries

Rajiv, who hails from Bihar and lives in Mahipalpur with his family, suffered multiple fractures in both legs. According to police sources, his leg bones were shattered in over 10 places. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

Doctors say he has severe crush injuries in his legs and ankles. His recovery may take a long time.

Swift Action by Delhi Police

Thanks to CCTV footage from the area, police quickly identified the SUV and traced it back to the suspect. Within just six hours of the incident, the accused — identified as Vijay, also known as Lala, a resident of Rangpuri — was arrested. The SUV used in the crime was also seized.

A case of attempted murder has been registered against Vijay at the Vasant Kunj South Police Station. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Choudhary, more investigation is underway.

Locals Shocked Over Ruthless Behavior

Residents of the area and netizens online have expressed deep shock and anger over such violent behavior just because of a simple request to stop honking. Many are calling for stricter punishment in hit-and-run and road rage cases.

One local shopkeeper said, “This is not just road rage. It is cruelty. A man going home after work was crushed like this? What if it was one of us?”

This heartbreaking incident is a reminder of how common road rage and aggression have become in cities like Delhi. It also highlights the need for stronger laws and better road safety awareness. As Rajiv fights for recovery, his family and many others are demanding justice and accountability for such inhuman acts.
