GUWAHATI, Feb 8: The BJP is all set to upset the Aam Aadmi Party’s applecart as it heads for a return to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years.
As per the Election Commission of India website, the BJP is leading in 43 seats while the Aam Aadmi Party is leading in 27 seats (updated till 11:20 am) in the 70-member house with the magic figure for government formation being 36.
The Congress is trailing in all seats it had contested.
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Atishi, former Deputy CM Mahish Sisodia and Saurabh Bharadwaj are all trailing.
Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, son for former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, is also trailing from New Delhi constituency from where Arvind Kejriwal is also contesting.
The victory for the BJP assumes greater significance since it had won just 8 seats in the 2020 elections while AAP had emerged victorious in 62 seats.
In 2015, when the AAP came to power for the first time after a landslide victory, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party won 67 seats while the BJP had won 3 and the Congress drew a blank.
The initial trends sparked off scenes of jubilation in the BJP.
