Guwahati: SpiceJet has launched 14 cargo services to and from Northeast India to move perishables, pharma, express, and general cargo products.

SpiceJet will operate daily cargo flights between Kolkata-Guwahati, Guwahati-Kolkata, Kolkata-Imphal, and Imphal-Kolkata. It has also introduced cargo flights between Kolkata and Guwahati via Aizawl and Dimapur, which will operate twice a week.

The carrier said it is the first Indian airline to introduce dedicated cargo flights serving Northeastern India “thus ensuring unparalleled connectivity with the rest of the country”.

In addition, the carrier will operate cargo flights between Kolkata-Agartala and Agartala-Guwahati sectors thrice a week, and between Kolkata-Silchar and Silchar-Guwahati twice a week.

Launching SpiceJet’s dedicated cargo aircraft services for the Northeast, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, “I would like to congratulate SpiceJet for this wonderful and much-needed initiative that would provide a big boost to traders and business houses in Assam and North East.”

Sonowal added, “If people of the Northeast will work hard, it won’t take much time for Northeast to become the ‘Vikas Engine’ of the country. I firmly believe all people present here also deeply realized the potentialities, possibilities, and probabilities of Assam and Northeast because this is the area where we have always been lacking behind. A few days back, PM Modi gave us access to waterways through the Brahmaputra river upto Chittagong Port in Bangladesh that connects us with different parts of the world. Now we have the air route, so now Farmers from the Northeast region can transport their fresh farm produce across the country and internationally also.”

“I urge local businesses, traders, entrepreneurs to use this opportunity to boost their businesses. This dedicated cargo service provides us access to markets not only within India but across the globe. SpiceJet dedicating a part of its fleet to improving connectivity and strengthening the supply chain in Assam and Northeast is a welcome step that will immensely help and boost local business, trade, micro, small and medium enterprises, and farmers,” added Sarbananda Sonowal.

It is to be mentioned that SpiceJet’s cargo network covers more than 44 destinations that include: Almaty, Abu Dhabi, Baghdad, Bahrain, Kathmandu, Khartoum, Kyrgyzstan, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait, Male, Myanmar, Shanghai, Singapore, Doha, Dubai, Guangzhou, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Huangzhou, Sharjah, Sulaymaniyah, Bangkok, Bishkek, Cambodia, Cairo, Cebu, Chad, Colombo, Dhaka, Incheon, Jakarta, Kabul, Tashkent, and Ukraine, etc.
