Dec 31 celebrations: Guwahati City Police-Administration gets ready

GUWAHATI: To ensure peaceful celebrations on December 31 night, Guwahati police and Kamrup (Metro) district administration have issued a slew of instructions to bars, hotels, dhabas and picnic spots in and around the city.

Keeping in mind the public gathering in places like Ma Kamakhya Devalaya, Bashista Mandir, Umananda Mandir, Balaji Mandir, Lankeswar Dham, Rani Sapori Sri Sri Ma Mansa Mandir, Ganesh Mandir (Latashil and Ganeshguri), State Zoo and other places, the city administration and police are making preparations.

City police commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta told media persons that police have formed special squads to keep an eye on sensitive places of Guwahati on December 31 night.

On 31st night, Assam Police along with excise department teams will check and search 50 places in Guwahati to prevent any violation of laws and regulations. On the other hand, the administration has banned music with high decibel after 10 pm.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up keeping in mind the T-20 match between India and Sri Lanka to be held on January 5, and Khelo India event from January 10 in Guwahati.
