GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA of Assam’s Hojai constituency Shiladitya Dev has demanded to revoke the system of ‘Doubtful’ of ‘D-Voters.’
Attending annual convention of Chirang district unit of All Assam Bengali Parishad on Saturday, Dev questioned the use of labeling someone with ‘D-Voter’ tag after the publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
“I have said on several occasions that since NRC has been prepared, there is no question of doubtful voters. In the constitution of India, you are either a citizen of India or a foreigner. There should not be a system of doubtful voters,” said the BJP legislator.
He demanded that Election Commission of India should take necessary steps to revoke the ‘D-Voters’ system as soon as possible.
