GUWAHATI, July 31: The Northeast continues to shine for India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games after another sports star from the region — diminutive Mizoram lifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga — won the second gold medal for the country.
Jeremy won with Gold with a Games record lifting 300kg in the Men’s 67kg category.
Earlier on Saturday, ace Manipuri weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India’s first Gold at Birmingham after clinching a top podium finish in the women’s 49kg category while another Manipuri lifter, Bindyarani Devi, won the silver in the women’s 55kg category.
With Jeremy Lalrinnunga’s gold, India’s overall tall went up to five medals: two golds, two silvers and a bronze. Incidentally, all five medals for India so far have come in weightlifting.
