GUWAHATI, Nov 19: The stage is all set for a titanic clash as the Narendra Modi stadium hosts the final of the ICC Men’s Criket World Cup 2023 between hosts India and five-time champions Australia. Revenge, surely, will be in the minds of every Indian as the Men in Blue aims to avenge the 2003 loss at the Wanderers in South Africa.
‘India… India’ and ‘Jeetega Bhai Jeetega, India Jeetega…’ chants reverberate across the country as the entire nation waits for a third cricket world cup triumph and watch Rohit Sharma lift the cup, culminating in what has been a superb show by Team India as they remain unbeaten, winning all their 10 matches — including the nine group-stage ties, in this edition of the world cup.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles will be watching the World Cup final at the iconic stadium while several other dignitaries, including central ministers and celebrities from the sporting and the entertainment world, also expected to make it to Ahmedabad for the grand finale.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will also cheer for the Men in Blue at Ahmedabad.
All past World Cup winning captains have been invited for the final match and a champion’s parade scheduled to be held at the stadium prior to start of play. Imran Khan, captain of the Pakistan team that won the world cup in 1992, will, however, be missing at the stadium.
