Cricket World Cup 2023: India annihilate England by 100 runs in low-scoring thriller at Lucknow

PUBLISHED:

India extended their winning streak to six matches in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 after defeating defending champions England by 100 runs at Lucknow to once again go top of the standings.

Posting a modest target of 230 runs after England skipper Jos Butler elected to bowl first after winning the toss, the Indian bowlers did an incredible job to skittle out the English side for just 129 runs in 34.5 overs and move one step closer to booking a place in the semi-finals.

While Mohammed Shami stood out as the most successful bowler for the hosts scalping 4 wickets for 22 runs, Jasprit Bumah starred with figures of 3 for 32. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav picked up two.

Earlier in the afternoon, skipper Rohit Sharma’s 87 runs and a fighting 49 from Suryakumar Yadav helped India post 229 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs.

The defeat leaves the defending champions in the bottom of the points table with just one victory from six matches and almost out of the tournament.
