Cricket fraternity pour wishes as King Kohli turns 32

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati:  The Indian Cricket team Captain Virat Kohli turned 32 on Thursday.

Over the last decade, no one batsman has climbed higher or gained more reputation than Virat Kohli, the current captain of the Indian team.

Since his debut in 2008, Kohli has stamped his authority to be regarded as one of, if not the best, batsmen of the contemporary era.

Due to his consistency and class, Kohli is being spoken in the same breath as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, two cricketers with the biggest fan base in India. And what a career it has been. Since he made his debut in the India Blue against Sri Lanka in Dambulla in 2008, Virat Kohli’s stature has grown leaps and bounds. Not only is he in the top 10 of the ICC batting rankings across all 3 formats, but Kohli has also had an indelible impact on contemporary cricket.

Among Indian batsmen, Kohli has the best ever Test, ODI and T20I rating with 937, 911 and 897 points respectively. As far as records go, Kohli, with 42 tons, is next only to the great Tendulkar in terms of leading century-makers in ODIs and holds the record for being the fastest batsman to reach 8000, 9000, 10000 and 11000 runs in ODIs.

The entire cricket fraternity took to Twitter to send their birthday wishes to the India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper.

Kohli was greeted with a special wish from his former team-mate Yuvraj Singh, who posted a photo of the two players together

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan also posted a photo of the two players together and also wished Kohli luck for the IPL 2020 play-offs.

Born on November 5, 1988, Kohli made his debut for India at the age of 19 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla and has been an integral part of the international setup since.

Kohli has come a long way now — from leading the country’s U-19 team to World Cup glory back in 2008 to leading India’s charge in dominating the world of cricket in all forms of the game.

Talking about his captaincy exploits, Virat Kohli enjoys a 71.83 win percentage, which is more than those of MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly.

Currently, Virat Kohli and all of India are focused on the IPL. RCB have made the playoffs for the first time since 2016, and Kohli would look to win his maiden IPL and add another feather to his cap.

On the personal front, Virat is married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and is soon going to embrace parenthood.   The couple surprised everyone by jetting off to Italy and tying the knot with just their family and very close friends in attendance.
