Covishield recognised by Belgium for essential travel

GUWAHATI: Amid speculation on which vaccine to take for foreign travel, the Covishield vaccine has been recognised by Belgium. This was announced through a tweet by the Embassy of Belgium’s official handle. The European country has recognized the Covishield vaccine for essential travel. Developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University the vaccine is produced in India by Serum Institute of India and is being used as a primary vaccine to fight COVID19.

“Covishield is one of the main vaccines, which was, is & will be used under the COVAX facility. Covishield will be used not only in India or in neighboring countries, but also all over the world. You cannot isolate a country”: Arnaud Lion,  Chargé d’Affaires, Belgium to India.

At the moment, the Belgium government is allowing only essential travel like students etc. Since Monday, Belgium has delivered over 100 long-stay visas in Delhi and 300 in Mumbai, stated the Chargé d’Affaires, Belgium to India through social media.

On Friday, the Belgium in India twitter handle informed: Belgium Flag of Belgium recognizes Covishield, the @AstraZeneca vaccine produced by @SerumInstIndia and distributed by COVAX.
