GUWAHATI: The number of COVID-19 cases in Assam has been witnessing rapid increase day by day. Among the new COVID-19 cases, some health professionals of the State have also got infected on the line of duty.
Dr. Deepak Chandra Das, in-charge of Singimari Model Hospital in Kamrup district which has been functioning as a dedicated COVID-19 facility tested positive for COVID-19 recently.
Reportedly, he was not directly involved in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The doctor is currently under treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.
Another health worker identified as Saiful Islam from Bihdia block primary health centre in Kamrup has also been found COVID-19 positive. Saiful came into contact with a COVID-19 patient on May 27on the line of duty. He was under home quarantine since then. Saiful, a resident of Nagaon village in Baihata Chariali has been shifted to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahati after his test report emerged as COVID-19 positive.He allegedly flouted quarantine norms and visited several shops and a post office.
On the other hand, Dr. Hasid Jaman who was the facility in-charge of Panigaon Omprakash Dinodia College quarantine centre in North Lakhimpur has tested COVID-19 positive. Incoming passengers from other States have been kept at this quarantine centre.
A few days ago, some people created an unruly situation at the quarantine centre. Dr. Hasid Jaman had reportedly come into their contact. He was under isolation at Lakhimpur.
Earlier Dr. Lithikesh DS of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Dr. Deepa Deka of Regional Dental College, Guwahati had tested positive for COVID-19. Both of them have recovered and have been discharged from hospital.
