COVID-19 situation in Assam likely to come under control by August 15

GUWAHATI: The COVID-19 situation in Assam is likely to come under control by August 15 as the positivity rate in the state has been dipping gradually. It is expected that the infection rate will come down to 2-3 per cent by August 15.

According to the Government of India, total 71,497 persons in Assam will be infected with COVID-19 till august 15. However Assam’s minister of state for health and family welfare department Pijush Hazarika opined that the number would remain between 60,000-65,000.

“According to the Government of India’s projection it will be 71,497 by August 15. But I think the number will remain between 60,000-65,000,” said Hazarika.

Meanwhile, the Assam health department has been intensifying testing across the state. On Thursday, 55,671 tests were conducted. Among them, 2372 persons were found COVID-19 positive.   

“I hope by August 15, the positivity rate will be between 2-3 per cent,” minister Hazarika said.
