Covid-19 cases spike in India, cross 1,000-figure mark; new variants detected

Kerala has reported the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases followed by Maharashtra and Delhi

Covid-19 cases are seeing an increase in India and new variants have also been detected which has led to a health authorities sounding an alert although maintaining that there was no cause for panic and alarm.

The number of active cases have crossed the 1,000 mark with Kerala reporting maximum cases followed by Maharashtra and Delhi.

New Covid-19 sub-variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 have been detected in India and both of them are currently under observation by global health authorities although no significant spike in severity has been reported so far.

Health authorities, meanwhile, said hospitals were fully prepared to tackle if the number of positive cases rises further.

The current symptoms of Covid-19 in India, health authorities maintained, are mild and subtle.

Symptoms positive cases have showed as sore throat, fatigue, mild cough, fever, muscle aches, nasal congestion, low-grade hyperthermia, headaches, nausea and gastrointestinal issues.

Authorities have also asked people to avoid crowded places as an extra measure of caution.

Although 7 deaths have been reported after positive cases have increased, health authorities said other conditions and not Covid-19 have been the major cause of death.

Unvaccinated individuals and those with comorbidities could be at risk, authorities and health experts warned.
