COVID-19 Cases continue to rise in Assam

Guwahati: A   total of 1,254 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Assam on Saturday (January 8).

Among the new cases, the highest number of cases were reported from Kamrup Metro (472), Kamrup Rural (103), Jorhat (81) and Cachar (54).

The new cases were detected out of 33,609 tests that were conducted during the day.

The test positivity rate in the state was recorded at 3.73% per cent on Saturday.

Meanwhile, two new COVID-19 related death were reported in the state during the day.

According to NHM Assam, the fresh fatalities were reported from Kamrup Metro (1) and Jorhat (1).

Further, 305 patients recovered on January 8. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state stands at 98.07 per cent.

Earlier on Friday (January 7), 1,167 COVID-19 cases were reported in the state including 517 cases from Kamrup Metro district. The test positivity rate in the state was recorded at 3.32% on Friday.

In the last 10 days, Kamrup Metro district has reported 2,274 new COVID-19 cases.

According to data released by NHM, Assam on 8th January, 6,25,753 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the State so far. Out of which, 6,13,678 patients have recovered, while 6,180 patients passed away.

The total number of active cases in the state now stands at 4,548.

Over 2.68 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state so far.

As many as 3,89,34,362 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Assam so far. This includes 2,26,02,662 persons administered with the first dose and 1,63,31,700 administered both doses of the vaccine.
