Covid 19: Booster vaccination drive for frontline workers and elderly begin in Assam

Guwahati: Along with the rest of the country booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for frontline workers and the elderly are being administered in Assam as well. Booster vaccination drive began at multiple health centres of Assam from 10 AM today. 

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital to kickstart the vaccination drive here along with former speaker of Assam Legislative assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami.

Frontline workers and the elderly above 60 years are eligible to get vaccination provided nine months have elapsed from receiving the 2nd dose.

The Assam Health Minister informed that media persons shall also be eligible for Covid vaccination as well. 

The precautionary third doses of vaccines as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month will be given to health and frontline workers starting today amid the Omicron-driven Covid surge in the country.

Besides health and frontline workers, those above the age of 60 years who have co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic ailments are also eligible of getting the “Precaution Dose”.

According to The health ministry, there is no need to register for the precautionary vaccine doses. Those eligible can directly take an appointment or walk into any vaccination centre.
The third dose will be the same vaccine the people have received for their first and second doses.

The “precautionary dose” was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month amid continued demands for booster doses in view of the Omicron threat.
