Guwahati, June 21: Cotton University celebrated the 8th International Day of Yoga with the attendance of officers, faculty members, staff members and students at Dr. T Ao Indoor Stadium of the University here today.
The event flagged off at 7 am with the formal inauguration by Professor Mahadev Patgiri, Registrar in-charge, Cotton University, accompanied by Professor Manjit Kumar Bhattacharya, Dean, Students Welfare of the University. This was followed by a workshop with Ankita Borthakur entrepreneur and yoga coach accompanied by Dhrubajyoti Haloi as the physical instructor.
It is important to note that as part of the countdown observance for this year’s International Yoga Day celebration, on two particular dates as fixed by the Ministry of Ayush for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the NSS Unit of Cotton University had been organizing a series of activities since last few weeks such as yoga workshop, yoga competition, yoga demonstration and so on. Moreover, the NSS Unit of the University facilitated daily yoga practice sessions in the afternoon time for the members of the University held from June 6 to June 20 with support from the District Sports Officer, Kamrup Metropolitan.
Notable members of the University who attended the program included Dr. Prasanta Sarma, Director, Students’ Welfare, Dr Ruma Talukdar, Vice-President, Cotton University Teachers’ Association, Dr. Bandana Sharma, and Dr. Debajyoti Barooah, Dr. Parishmita Bordoloi and Dr. Kulen Das, Physical Instructor, Cotton University.
