Coronavirus Scare: 299 people from Assam took part in Delhi religious gathering

GUWAHATI: Defying government’s endless efforts to combat Coronavirus, around 299 people from Assam took part in religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat at Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi.

“Assam Govt is now in possession of a list of 299 persons who were present in and around the hotspot near Nizamuddin Dargah. We’ve alerted dist admins to find out if these people have returned to Assam, and strict instructions issued to quarantine them if they are in the state,” Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Tweeted. 

In a telephonic conversation with News Live, one of the stranded pilgrims from Assam at Hazrat Nizamuddin said that 70 people from Assam have been sent to isolation units.

On the other hand, 50 people from Morigaon district attended the religious gathering which is the highest.

On Monday, Telangana government confirmed that 6 people who attended the religious event died of Coronavirus.

On the other hand, as many as 24 people who were at the markaz building in Nizamuddin area have been tested positive with Coronavirus, Delhi’s health minister Satyendar Jain said today.

Jain said the goverment was unsure of exactly how many people were at the markaz building but pegged the estimate at 1,500-1,700, ANI reports.

He said 1,033 people had been evacuated, 334 hospitalised and 700 sent to quarantine centres.
