Coronavirus Assam: Isolation ward set up at Kohora Model Hospital, Kaziranga

Guwahati: After a 76-year-old man from the United States of America was tested positive for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in neighboring country Bhutan, Assam Government has taken preventive measures to ensure that the virus does not spread in the State. An isolation ward has been set up in Kohora Model Hospital, Kaziranga.

It is to be mentioned that the American tourist had spent a few days in Assam and took a seven-day Brahmaputra river cruise before leaving for Bhutan. As per reports, the tourist took Jeep Safari, Elephant Safari in Kaziranga National Park.

Meanwhile, the isolation ward is ready and a team of doctors will be treating the patients. A special team has been formed to tackle this issue.

“A number of tourists visit Kaziranga National Park in this season, so we have set up this isolation ward and we are ready to carry out all initial tests and treatments that are required. Separate wards for males and females have been set up,” said a medical officer.

He added, “We have started awareness programmes. Almost 95% of the hotels have been covered till now. We will visit village to village as the main issue is rumor. We will take steps to educate people about the disease. We are trying to identify the places the affected US tourist visited.”

A special team of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Golaghat is following the tracks of the US citizen.
