Containment Zone in Golaghat district; Police taking strict action against rule violators

GUWAHATI: Golaghat district in Assam has been declared as a full Containment Zone and Police officials are taking strict action against those who are violating the COVID-19 protocol.

“Morning we got the information that the fish and vegetable market is open so we went immediately and shut it down. We are taking fines and following all legal procedures against those violating covid norms.

All must follow the rules and regulations issued by the authorities. As the covid situation is getting worse in our district we all must take precautionary measures. We have also seized a number of vehicles,” said a senior police officer.

The Assam government on Tuesday (July 6) announced a total containment in seven districts – Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Morigaon amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.

It is to be mentioned that Golaghat reported 209 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, Assam’s COVID-19 caseload mounted to 5,29,693 on Friday as 2,493 people tested positive for the infection while 24 fresh fatalities. Kamrup Metro district reported the highest number of cases at 247, the National Health Mission bulletin said.
