Congress protests ‘privatization’ of NRL, several leaders detained

GUWAHATI, Oct 30: Seveal top Assam Congress leaders were taken into preventive detention after they took part in a demonstration opposing the reported move by the central government to privatise the Numaligarh Reinery Limited (NRL).

Congress leaders, inclucuding Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Borah, former three-term CM Tarun Gogoi, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly Debabrat Saikia and Lok Sabha MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi, took part in the sit-in demonstration and the subsequent highway blockade staged at Numaligarh Tiniali connecting NH-37 and NH-39.

Congress leaders flayed the reported move to privatise NRL and warned the BJP governments in the State and at the Centre no to go ahead with such a plan.
