Guwahati: Assam’s ace pugilist and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain is set to enter the boxing ring today.
Lovlina stormed into the Quarters of women’s light middleweight (over 66 kg-70 kg) beating New Zealand’s Arianne Nicholson
And today, Lovlina will be up against Welshwoman Rosie Eccles in the women’s light middleweight category in the Quarter Final.
The pugilist is a two-time Bronze medallist at the Women’s World Boxing Championships. She is the first female boxer and the second athlete from Assam to represent India at the Olympics. She got the better of Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen 4-1 in the QF and assured India a medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Lovlina even owns two Asian Championships Bronze medals. This will be Lovlina’s second Commonwealth Games. She represented India at the Gold Coast in 2018 but lost against Sandy Ryan who went on to win the Gold.
The Quarter-final bout between Lovlina Borgohain and Rosie Eccles is scheduled to start from 12:30 am (IST) on August 4, 2022.
