GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today appealed industry captains to come and set up industries in Assam while taking part in the Advantage Assam 2.0 roadshow as he continued drumming up support ahead of February’s investment and infrastructure summit in Guwahati.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma has been camping in the country’s commercial capital with a team of senior Assam Government officials and has met several top industrialists, including Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, along with other industry leaders as he extended them an official invite to Advantage Assam 2.0 to be held in Guwahati on February 24-25.
Chief Minister Sarma said his government is open to amending laws and restructuring policies so as to attract greater investment.
He also stated that Assam is targeting investment to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore, and is focusing on sectors like tourism, semiconductors, and defence.
“If an investor has requirements other than what we have envisaged, we are open to reshaping our policies to ensure the industry feels comfortable,” he said at the Mumbai roadshow.
“Assam is a small but bullish State which is willing to go to any length to facilitate investments,” he further stated, and added: “We are prepared to compete with other States with our resources and capabilities, and we remain optimistic about the future.”
“To further encourage companies to set their base in Assam, we are setting up a corpus of Rs 25,000 crore for production-linked incentive (PLI) which will be offered to various industries,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma said.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma had on the second day of his Mumbai tour yesterday met Chairman Tata Trusts Noel Tata and his son Neville Tata and expressed his thankfulness for the Trusts’ investment in Assam. He also invited them to the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.
During his meeting with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, Dr Sarma invited him to partner with the Assam government in its quest for industrial development in the State.
Chief Minister Sarma also met Ajay Piramal, Chairman of the Piramal Group, and spoke at length on how to collaborate on transformative projects in the healthcare and social sectors.
