“Hima has made us and the entire nation proud. I met her parents and other family members and congratulated them. They told me about Hima’s wish for infrastructure upgrade of the village playground where she initially trained, the village library and the ‘Naamghar’ where she used to worship and seek the Almighty’s blessings for success in her career and life. I have instructed the DC to ensure compliance of her wish and that the government will bear all cost in this regard,” Chief Minister Sonowal said.

He also added that Hima’s performance in Finland highlighted the grit, resolve and perseverance of girls and women from Assam besides cherishing women empowerment in the State.

Chief Minister Sonowal reiterated his government’s decision to name the star athlete, now fondly called the ‘Assam Express’, as the brand ambassador of Assam Sports and the Rs 50 lakh reward for winning the gold and creating history in Finland.

“We are confident that Hima will achieve more success in life and that she will contribute to our mission of making Guwahati the new sports capital of the country and also inspire other upcoming sports persons to achieve their goals in life,” Chief Minister Sonowal further added.
