Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Finance, Heath and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned the demise of noted folk singer Archana Mahanta.
Taking to his Twitter CM Sonowal wrote, “Anguished at the demise of renowned Assamese folk singer Archana Mahanta baidew. Today, we have lost a shining star among the cultural stalwarts of the state. I offer my deepest condolences and join all her well-wishers and fans in prayers for the departed soul.@paponmusic”

Remembering the noted singer Dr. Sarma said, ” বহু কালজয়ী গীতেৰে অসমীয়া সংগীতৰ জগতখন সমৃদ্ধ কৰা জনসাধাৰণৰ আদৰৰ শিল্পী শ্ৰী অৰ্চনা মহন্ত ডাঙৰীয়ানীৰ বিয়োগে শোকাহত কৰিছে ৷ ৰাজ্যখনৰ সাংস্কৃতিক জগতখনৰ বাবে এয়া এক অপূৰণীয় ক্ষতি ৷ শ্ৰদ্ধাৰ কণ্ঠশিল্পীগৰাকীৰ বিদেহ আত্মাৰ সদগতি কামনা কৰিলোঁ ৷”

Archana Mahanta died after prolong illness on Thursday morning. She was admitted to a private nursing home in Guwahati following a brain stroke
Archana Mahanta and her late husband Khagen Mahanta had enormous contribution in popularising and preserving Assamsese folk music. There are many evergreen songs to the credit of the popular singer couple.
Their son Papon is a famous playback singer in Bollywood.
She has two grandchildren, Puhor and Parijaat. She also has a daughter, Kingkini Mahanta.
