Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Health, Education and Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today extended greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of the Ali Aye Ligang festival.
Taking to his Twitter CM Sonowal wrote,” May the Ali Aye Ligang festival bring a sense of happiness, joy and prosperity to the life of all, including the farmers”.

CM Sonowal also attended addressed an event at Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district on the occasion Ali Aye Ligang.
“Wishing everyone on the occasion of Mishing festival Ali Aye Ligang. May this festival, held on the first Wednesday of the month of February, bring joy and happiness to all,” roughly translated from Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet.

The Mising Community of Assam has begun their five day spring festival ‘Ali Aye Ligang’ which begins on ‘Ligange Lange’, the first Wednesday of ‘Gimur Polo’ which occurs in February as per the Gregorian calendar of on Wednesday of the month of Fagun of the Assamese calendar.
Ali Aye Ligang, which literally translates to sowing roots and fruits as Ali means seeds, Aye stands for fruits and Ligang means sowing. The festival is observed at the onset of seed sowing especially the starting of the ‘Ahu’ paddy cultivation.
