CM Sarma pays homage to Bapu at Gandhi Mandap

Guwahati: On the occasion of the 152nd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma paid rich floral tributes to the statue of Gandhiji at Gandhi mandap here on Saturday.

On the occasion Dr. Sarma said that the Assam Government shall renovate and refurbish historic Gandhi Mandap located atop Sarania Hills to incorporate auditorium and museum encompassing the indelible memories of Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking to the media CM Sarma said, ” On this occasion rather than symbolically celebrate his birthday, we should practise his teachings like Swaraj, Ahimsa, Truthfulness, Swachhata etc. Assam has very intrinsic relations with Mahatma who came to our state four times. Therefore, following his teachings of Ahimsa and protection of cows, our Government is taking several steps in our bid to immortalise Gandhiji, his teachings and philosophy. Our Government will also renovate and refurbish the historic Gandhi Mandap located atop the Sarania hills to incorporate auditorium and museum encompassing the indelible memories of Gandhiji. It will be our fitting tributes to the Father of the Nation.”

Taking to his Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Paid our homage to Bapu on #GandhiJayanti (sic) along with esteemed colleagues. As our tribute to #FatherOfNation GoA shall renovate and refurbish historic Gandhi Mandap located atop Sarania Hills to incorporate auditorium and museum encompassing the indelible memories of Gandhiji.”

 

Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister Handloom and Textiles U. G. Brahma, MP Queen Oja, MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya were present on the occasion.
