CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicates several welfare measures to people in Dibrugarh, reviews progress of Govt schemes

GUWAHATI, Dec 23: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is on a three-day visit to Dibrugarh, today dedicated several welfare measures under various government schemes to the people at an event at the Mancotta playground as part of the “12 Days of Development” programme of the Government.

The highlight was distribution of grants among students of the district under the education department. While 2,593 students received scooters under the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, 1,255 students were awarded cash prizes under the Anundoram Borooah Award and another 10,270 students were provided bicycles under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uplift living standards and empowering every citizen of Assam to lead a life of dignity and self-reliance.

He also reviewed progress of the under-construction multi-disciplinary sports complex at Khanikar locality of the town and directed officials to ensure timely and quality completion of the project.

He is also reviewing progress of government schemes and policies at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and will also chair a meeting of his cabinet from the secretariat at 6:30 pm.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma had arrived in Dibrugarh yesterday after dedicating several welfare measures to the people of Lakhimpur district. Notable among them was the distribution of “No Dues Certificates” to women under the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma also inaugurated a 371-meter-long bridge over the Ranganadi in Lakhimpur district which has been built at a cost of Rs 26.22 crore.

He also laid the foundation stone of a B.Sc. Nursing College at Lakhimpur Medical College for which Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned while an additional Rs 15 crore has been allocated for an M.Sc. Nursing College.
